Using Clay

The use of clay for healing and medicinal purposes dates back centuries, even to prehistoric times. Due to clay’s absorptive properties it is also widely used in industrial applications, primarily to clean up pollution and chemical waste. Lava Love aims to harness these very same detoxifying properties. Just as it binds up chemicals at factory sites, clay pull toxins from the body and naturally helps restore balance and wellness.

Lava Love uses only the purest natural clay, sourced in beautiful Oregon.

Clay Baths

Clay baths are commonly used as a healing regimen at holistic wellness centers to detoxify the body and stimulate healing. They are also commonplace at European spas, and more recently American spas, and are popular at home with those simply seeking to restore their bodies to a state of balance.

Specific uses include:

  • Soothing sore muscles; reducing swelling and inflammation of sprains
  • Detoxifying the body from heavy metals and free radicals as part of a cancer treatment regimen
  • Speeding the body back to health after illness or injury
  • Relaxing body and mind; bringing you into balance
  • Alleviate congestion, spasms and toxicity of liver and gallbladder, when placed over abdomen
  • Alleviate headaches
  • Reduce tumor inflammation
  • Reduce inflammation in joints
  • Reduce fluid retention
  • Stimulate peristalsis in the colon
  • Deep, restorative relaxation

To use at home:

  • Start with ¼ cup of bath powder in a warm tub
  • Let sit for 5 minutes as the clay hydrates and absorbs any chlorine or impurities in the water
  • Enter tub (adding more water to bring to the perfect temperature).
  • Soak for 18-20 minutes
  • Rinse off with clear water after bathing
  • Hydrate with your favorite moisturizer

Face and Body Mask

On the Face:

As a face mask, clay will assist in healing:

  • Acne
  • Rosacea
  • Eczema and other skin conditions
  • It is also great as part of a deep cleansing or spa facial regimen – either at your favorite spa or at home.

To use as a Facial Mask:

  • Use a glass or ceramic bowl and spoon (non-metal)
  • Mix with up to 2 parts warm water to create a creamy paste
  • Apply to skin as a facial mask
  • Let it dry for 5-15 minutes
  • Rinse with clear water, then hydrate with your favorite moisturizer

As a Poultice:

The powder can also be used as a poultice for healing a variety of illnesses. Use 2-3 times a day for 2-3 hours (till the poultice dries). Use clay poultices on/over different parts of the body to:

  • Alleviate congestion, spasms and toxicity of liver and gallbladder, when placed over abdomen
  • Alleviate headaches
  • Reduce tumor inflammation
  • Alleviate toothaches
  • Calm infected gums
  • Soothe insect and spider bites
  • Reduce swelling
  • Reduce inflammation in joints
  • Reduce fluid retention
  • Stimulate peristalsis in the colon
  • Reduce inflammation of sprains
  • Heal boils, acne, warts, rashes
  • Draw glass or splinters from the skin

To use as a Poultice:

  • Use a glass or ceramic bowl and spoon (non-metal)
  • Mix with up to 2 parts warm water to create a creamy paste
  • Spread onto clean, porous natural fabric to create a poultice, such as muslin, cotton, flannel or wool – an amount large enough to cover the affected area
  • Apply to affected area, clay side toward skin. Cover with protective material or plastic to keep bedding or clothing clean
  • Tape on with bandaging tape to hold poultice in place
  • Keep on affected area for 2-3 hours, until dry; overnight use is OK
  • Consider using gloves to remove clay poultice, which is now full of toxins, to avoid reabsorbing them via your hands
  • Rinse with clear water
